Jimmy Gavros was tragically killed doing what he did best. Jimmy Gavros was killed at Rowley Park Speedway on January 23 1970. Jim started racing speedway at the age of 17 and at 21 was about to leave for England to further his career. The Jimmy Gavros Memorial Race was then run to honour Jimmy Gavros. The Rowley Park Speedway winners were 1970 John Boulger, 1971 Paul Scanlon, 1972 Jeff Burton, 1973 was not held, 1974 Brenton Kluske, 1975 Paul Scanlon, 1976 Terry Richards, 1977 Gary Dillon, 1978 Lou Sansom.
